NSF POSE Phase I award to scope an open-source ecosystem for spatial omics!

We are thrilled to announce that the Dries Lab has received an NSF POSE (Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems) Phase I award to investigate whether — and how — a sustainable open-source ecosystem could be built around Giotto Suite for spatial multi-scale and multi-omics data science.

Phase I is a scoping award: it supports the groundwork rather than the ecosystem itself. Over the coming year we will audit the current state of the software and where users run into friction, consult our community of users and developers through surveys and a hybrid community planning lab, and synthesize what we learn into a technical charter and proposed governance structure. Together these will tell us whether a full ecosystem effort is the right path forward — and what it would realistically take.

This work is a collaboration with co-PI Guo-Cheng Yuan (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai).
